Cuckoo Spit Geo
This is our part of Leigh On Sea
I wrote a small piece of music for my web site, and which I thought I would call Leigh On Sea ght ng for 10
I got out of my chair.
The walk to the boat yard took about thirty minutes there and back. I recorded the whole walk in one take.
I kept walking at a steady pace for the whole thirty minutes and stopped just once to record the rigging. This was tricky because a fierce wind got up at the water’ edge. The rigging noise was not as I hoped or expected but I got something of it nevertheless.
I was compensated by a variety of noises that I did not expect. My musical trousers were a revelation.
So just where is the bird song, or the sounds of nature in this small residential seaside environment? I did record a couple of birds, but you will have to concentrate very hard to catch them. It did not occur to me just how invasive the internal combustion engine is. You might think that Leigh On Sea, is alongside the M25, but no.
I considered what to do with the recording. I set about reducing the 30 minutes recording to a manageable 7 minutes. I did this by eliminating any excessive repetition By this rule, I was able to justify eliminating a great deal of traffic and wind noise.
Some of the sounds have been condensed or overlapped.
There has been some manipulation of the sounds I recorded but nothing has been added
Finally, I thought I would really chop it up and reduce the gravy a lot further. The Two Minute Walk.
I made some weird recordings some twenty years ago circa 1983 when Thatcher was doing her worst. I have dusted them off, cleaned them up with a remix and given them a brand new grand title,
United Kingdom and Northern Island. Pretentious Moi? I added some tickled ivories as a glue but then had a “Let it Be” moment, and added a “naked” version for the hell of it. If you are still reading this, I salute you Monk
